Ingredient profile
African mango and the weight herbs in Glyco Harmony
Glyco Harmony's blend holds four ingredients sold for weight loss: African mango seed (fourth), Coleus forskohlii (ninth), Capsicum annuum (tenth) and raspberry ketones (thirteenth). Their single amounts are hidden. Evidence for each is weak or missing, even at the hundreds of milligrams used in studies. African mango may also add to diabetes medicines.

01On the label
What does the label say about African mango and the weight herbs?
Four lines inside the 200 mg proprietary blend, none with an amount.
| On the label | In 1 mL | Studied at | Evidence | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| African Mango (Irvingia gabonensis) Seed ExtractIrvingia gabonensis seed | Blend line 4 of 22, share not disclosed | 150 mg twice a day (300 mg) in a small trial | Weak; small, poor-quality trials | Gas, headache, poor sleep; caution with diabetes drugs. (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
| Coleus Forskohlii Root ExtractPlectranthus barbatus root (forskolin) | Blend line 9 of 22, share not disclosed | 500 mg a day of 10% forskolin extract | No weight effect in small trials | Can lower blood pressure; bleeding risk with blood thinners. (MSKCC, Forskolin (Coleus forskohlii)) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
| Capsicum Annuum Fruit ExtractChili pepper (capsaicin) | Blend line 10 of 22, share not disclosed | 2-4 mg capsaicin a day | No significant weight change | Stomach irritation; cough with ACE inhibitors. (MSKCC, Cayenne (Capsicum)) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
| Raspberry KetonesSynthetic or raspberry-derived compound | Blend line 13 of 22, share not disclosed | Only tested inside combination products | No human evidence alone | Safety not established. (OPSS (DoD), Raspberry Ketone) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
The mango line is a seed extract of Irvingia gabonensis, not the fruit flesh shown in the brand photo at the top. Coleus and capsicum are root and fruit extracts. Raspberry ketones are a single compound, not a whole plant.
02Why they are here
Why are weight-loss ingredients in a blood sugar formula?
Because one of the five sales-page claims is 'Assist in Maintaining a Healthy Weight'. These four lines are the ones aimed at it.
Weight and blood sugar are linked. Losing a modest amount of weight helps many people with prediabetes (CDC, Prediabetes). So a product sold for blood sugar support often adds herbs sold for weight loss.
The link between weight and glucose is real. The link between these four ingredients and weight is not well shown. Each one gets its own check below.

03Dose check
How much of each weight herb can one dropper hold?
The blend order sets a ceiling for each. Every ceiling sits under the amounts used in studies.
| Ingredient | Blend place | Most in 1 mL | Most in 2 mL | Studied amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| African mango seed | 4 of 22 | 50 mg | 100 mg | 300 mg a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
| Coleus forskohlii root | 9 of 22 | 22.2 mg | 44.4 mg | 500 mg a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
| Capsicum annuum fruit | 10 of 22 | 20 mg | 40 mg | 2-4 mg capsaicin a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) |
| Raspberry ketones | 13 of 22 | 15.4 mg | 30.8 mg | 100-1,400 mg a day in supplements (OPSS (DoD), Raspberry Ketone) |
The ceilings assume every line above weighs the same as the one in question; in practice each is likely lower. The capsicum row is not a direct match, because the label does not say how much capsaicin the extract holds. The rule behind the ceilings is on the label explained page.
04African mango
Does African mango help with weight or blood sugar?
The evidence is weak for weight and thin for blood sugar.
The extract comes from the seed of the Irvingia gabonensis fruit. Memorial Sloan Kettering rates the weight-loss evidence as weak, with most studies small and poorly designed. Human data on blood sugar are limited (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)).
The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements describes one small 10-week trial that used 150 mg before lunch and dinner, 300 mg a day. It calls the evidence limited (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Even if African mango took its full ceiling of 50 mg per dropper, two droppers would give a third of that trial amount.
MSK lists a caution with diabetes drugs because of an added glucose-lowering effect seen in rats (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)). That is a reason for care, not proof of benefit in people.
05The other three
Do coleus, capsicum and raspberry ketones work?
Small trials found little or nothing, and raspberry ketones have no human data on their own.
Coleus forskohlii
The root yields forskolin. Three small trials at 500 mg a day found no effect on body weight (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). MSK notes that studies showing safety and benefit are lacking (MSKCC, Forskolin (Coleus forskohlii)).
Capsicum annuum
Chili pepper extract, the source of capsaicin. At 2-4 mg of capsaicin a day for 12 weeks, weight did not change much (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Any effect on insulin rests on one small study (MSKCC, Cayenne (Capsicum)).
Raspberry ketones
Most research is in animals and cells. The only human studies used multi-ingredient products, so no result can be pinned on the ketone. There is no evidence it is safe or works for weight (OPSS (DoD), Raspberry Ketone).
Put together, the four weight lines add length to the label more than proof to the formula. Our claims vs evidence page sets the 'Healthy Weight' claim beside these findings.

What side effects and medicine cautions come with these ingredients?
Most were reported at research doses, far above what the drops can hold. They are still worth knowing.
- African mango: gas, headache and trouble sleeping; one case of kidney failure needing dialysis was reported (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)).
- Coleus: low blood pressure, slow heart rate and diarrhea; may add to blood pressure drugs and raise bleeding risk with warfarin (MSKCC, Forskolin (Coleus forskohlii)).
- Capsicum: stomach irritation; may worsen the cough some people get from ACE inhibitors (MSKCC, Cayenne (Capsicum)).
- Raspberry ketones: safety is not established (OPSS (DoD), Raspberry Ketone).

07What helps
What does help with weight and blood sugar?
Steady habits, backed by large trials. They work with or without any supplement.
Aim for a modest loss
Losing 5 to 7% of body weight, about 10 to 14 pounds at 200 pounds, can help prevent type 2 diabetes (CDC, Prediabetes).
Move 150 minutes a week
Brisk walking counts. In the Diabetes Prevention Program, lifestyle change cut the risk of type 2 by 58% (NIDDK, Diabetes Prevention Program).
Track and talk
Share your weight and glucose numbers with your doctor. Our prediabetes plan lays out a start.

08FAQ
Glyco Harmony questions people ask
Does African mango help you lose weight?
The evidence is weak. Most studies were small and poorly designed (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)), and the main trial used 300 mg a day for 10 weeks (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Glyco Harmony does not say how much it contains, and the most possible is 50 mg per dropper.
What are the side effects of African mango?
Reported side effects include gas, headache and trouble sleeping. One case of kidney failure needing dialysis was reported (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)). If you have kidney disease, ask your doctor before using any product that contains it.
Does forskolin work for weight loss?
Not in the trials so far. Three small studies of 500 mg a day of Coleus forskohlii extract found no effect on body weight (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Forskolin can also lower blood pressure and slow the heart rate (MSKCC, Forskolin (Coleus forskohlii)).
Do raspberry ketones work?
There is no good evidence that they do. Human studies only tested them inside combination products, so no effect can be tied to the ketones alone, and their safety is not established (OPSS (DoD), Raspberry Ketone).
Can capsicum extract upset your stomach?
Yes, stomach irritation and pain are its main side effects (MSKCC, Cayenne (Capsicum)). It may also worsen the dry cough that ACE-inhibitor blood pressure drugs cause in some people. Mention it to your doctor if you take one.
Is African mango safe for people with diabetes?
Ask your doctor first. MSK lists a caution with diabetes medicines because rat studies showed an added glucose-lowering effect, and human data are limited (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)). Keep your prescribed doses as they are while you ask.
