Ingredient profile

Guarana and green tea in Glyco Harmony

Quick answer

Guarana seed extract (blend line 3) and green tea leaf extract (line 7) both bring caffeine to Glyco Harmony. The label prints no caffeine amount. Label order caps the two extracts at about 67 mg and 29 mg per dropper, and only part of each extract is caffeine. Neither herb has good evidence for blood sugar.

01Label facts

What does the label say about guarana and green tea?

Two extracts in the blend, both natural sources of caffeine, with no weights given.

The panel lists "Guarana (Paullinia cupana) Seed Extract" third and "Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Leaf Extract" seventh. Nothing on the bottle says "caffeine". You only learn it by knowing the plants.

02The plants

Why do guarana and green tea add caffeine to the drops?

Caffeine is part of what these plants are, so their extracts carry some of it.

Guarana seeds hold caffeine, and Memorial Sloan Kettering says most of guarana's effects come from that caffeine (MSKCC, Guarana). Green tea leaves hold caffeine too, along with plant compounds called catechins (NCCIH, Green Tea).

A label can list a caffeine-bearing herb without printing a caffeine figure. The NIH notes that products with guarana often leave the caffeine amount off (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). Glyco Harmony follows that pattern.

So the drops are not caffeine free, even though the word never appears. If you avoid caffeine for sleep, heart rhythm or pregnancy, treat the bottle as a caffeine product.

03Your daily total

How much could the caffeine herbs add to your day?

Probably a small amount next to coffee. But nobody outside the maker can give you a number.

The blend lists ingredients from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). Guarana is third, so it cannot weigh more than a third of 200 mg. Green tea is seventh, so it cannot pass a seventh. Caffeine is only one part of each extract.

  1. Count your cups

Add up coffee, tea, soda and energy drinks on a normal day.

  2. Add the drops

Treat them as a small extra source, even with no printed figure.

  3. Watch your sleep

If nights get worse, take the drops earlier or talk to your doctor.

The label names no time of day. Light sleepers may prefer mornings. See the dosage page for the full routine.

04Evidence

Do guarana or green tea help with blood sugar?

Neither has good evidence for it. Even for weight, the effects are small.

Guarana is a caffeine source with no blood sugar dose behind it (MSKCC, Guarana). Green tea has been studied more, mostly for weight. Weight studies used about 141 to 1,207 mg of catechins a day (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). The NCCIH says catechins plus caffeine may have only a modest effect on body weight (NCCIH, Green Tea).

The NCCIH also finds no reliable evidence that any herbal supplement controls diabetes (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements). A few milligrams of tea extract cannot change that. The caffeine herbs likely give the drops a light lift, not a glucose effect.

A lift can feel like "something working". Energy is not better blood sugar. Your meter and A1C are the honest test. Our claims vs evidence page sets each ad promise beside the research.

05Side effects

What side effects can guarana and green tea extract cause?

Mostly the usual caffeine effects. Green tea extract adds a rare liver warning.

Caffeine effects

Too much caffeine can bring a fast heartbeat, palpitations, poor sleep, anxiety and jitters (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?). People who are sensitive feel these at lower amounts.

Guarana at high doses

Nausea and insomnia are the common ones. Large amounts can cause vomiting, heartbeat changes, high blood pressure and seizures (MSKCC, Guarana).

Green tea extract and the liver

Liver injury has been reported, mostly with extract tablets and capsules. It is uncommon (NCCIH, Green Tea).

Other herbs in the blend carry their own notes on the safety page.

06Check first

Who should check with a doctor before taking the caffeine herbs?

Anyone sensitive to caffeine, pregnant or nursing, or on a stimulant, blood thinner or nadolol.

1. Are you pregnant, nursing or under 18?
2. Do you take insulin, a sulfonylurea or another diabetes medicine?
3. Do you take a blood thinner, blood pressure or heart medicine, digoxin or a statin?
4. Do you take an antidepressant, an MAOI or thyroid medicine, or react strongly to caffeine?
5. Right now, are you confused, fainting, or is your sugar under 70 and not coming up?
Answer all fiveYour result shows here. It is a checklist, not medical advice.
Medicines and stimulants

Guarana may not be safe with other stimulants, and it may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners such as warfarin (MSKCC, Guarana). Green tea at high doses lowers blood levels of the beta-blocker nadolol (NCCIH, Green Tea). Keep taking prescribed medicine; never stop or change it because of a supplement.

07FAQ

Glyco Harmony questions people ask

Is guarana the same thing as caffeine?

No, but much of what it does comes from caffeine. Guarana seeds contain caffeine, and Memorial Sloan Kettering attributes many of its effects to it (MSKCC, Guarana). In Glyco Harmony the guarana extract can weigh at most about 67 mg per dropper, and the caffeine inside it is not printed.

Can I take Glyco Harmony with an energy drink?

It is better not to stack them. Guarana may not be safe with other stimulants (MSKCC, Guarana), and energy drinks often contain more caffeine or guarana. Count everything toward the FDA's 400 mg daily level for healthy adults (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?), and skip the mix if you feel shaky or your heart races.

Does green tea extract help with weight loss?

Only a little, if at all. The NCCIH says catechins plus caffeine may have only a modest effect on body weight (NCCIH, Green Tea), and studies used far more catechins than the drops can hold. Glyco Harmony's green tea share is not disclosed and is capped near 29 mg per dropper.

Can people with high blood pressure take guarana?

Talk to your doctor first. High doses of guarana can raise blood pressure and change heart rhythm (MSKCC, Guarana). The amount in Glyco Harmony is likely small, but the label gives no caffeine figure, and the blend also holds licorice and arginine, which affect blood pressure in their own ways.

Does Glyco Harmony interact with nadolol?

Possibly, through its green tea. The NCCIH notes that green tea at high doses reduces blood levels of the beta-blocker nadolol (NCCIH, Green Tea). The green tea share in the drops is small and not disclosed, so ask your pharmacist whether it matters for you before you start, and keep your nadolol as prescribed.

What time of day should I take caffeine-containing drops?

The label names no time, so morning is a practical choice. Caffeine can disturb sleep (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?), and Glyco Harmony lists guarana and green tea. Taking the drops with breakfast keeps them far from bedtime. If your sleep still suffers, talk to your doctor about whether to continue.
