Glyco Harmony Formula Grouped by Job, Not by Label Order

Quick answer

Glyco Harmony lists 23 active lines: one mineral with an amount, and 22 blend ingredients sharing 200 mg. Sorted by job, they are chromium, a few blood sugar herbs, weight herbs, caffeine sources, other plants and eight amino acids. Each group has research at doses far above one dropper, and no trial has tested the formula.

01The big picture

What is in the Glyco Harmony formula?

The label has one stated amount and a long list. Chromium (as chromium picolinate) is 0.7 mcg per mL. Then comes a proprietary blend of 200 mg holding 22 more ingredients, listed from most to least by weight. A liquid base of glycerin, water and sweeteners carries it all.

Most people read that list top to bottom. That hides the pattern. If you sort the lines by what they are sold for, five or six clear groups appear. We will walk through them in turn.

A small count first: one mineral, 12 plant extracts, two other compounds (raspberry ketones and a licorice compound) and eight amino acids make 23 lines.

02At a glance

Key facts

  • Serving: 1 mL. A 60 mL bottle holds 60 servings.
  • Chromium alone carries a stated amount, 0.7 mcg or 2% of the Daily Value.
  • The 22-line blend totals 200 mg. That averages about 9 mg a line, but real shares are not disclosed.
  • Blend lines run from most to least by weight, from maca root first to L-carnitine last.
  • Studies on single ingredients used amounts far above what one dropper can hold. No trial has tested the formula itself.
  • Other ingredients: glycerin, water, organic lemon extract, stevia extract 97% (Reb A), xylitol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid and natural flavors.

04The mineral

What does the chromium line do, and how small is 0.7 mcg?

Chromium is a trace mineral with a job in helping insulin carry sugar into cells. That is the real science behind the 'insulin function' claim. Adults need roughly 20 to 35 mcg a day in total, and the 35 mcg Daily Value explains the 2% printed on the label (NIH ODS, Chromium).

A whole bottle holds about 42 mcg. Glucose studies gave 200 to 1,000 mcg a day, mostly as chromium picolinate, the form on the label. Two droppers a day give 1.4 mcg. That is under 1% of the lowest studied dose, and even at full doses the results were slight.

05The herbs

Which herbs have blood sugar research, and which do not?

Two in the blend have some. Gymnema showed a small fasting-glucose drop at 200 to 400 mg a day of standardized extract. Panax ginseng showed a modest fasting drop, about 5.6 mg/dL, and no A1C change, at doses from about 100 mg to many grams, mostly of root. The label lists an aerial extract, which is leaf and stem.

The others have little. Maca, grape seed, astragalus and grapefruit were studied for other things. Eleuthero has blood sugar data in animals only. The licorice compound has no studied dose we could find. Meanwhile NCCIH reports no dependable proof that an herbal supplement controls diabetes (NCCIH, Diabetes and Dietary Supplements).

06The odd ones

Why does a blood sugar formula hold weight herbs and caffeine?

The label does not say. One of the five sales page claims is 'Assist in Maintaining a Healthy Weight', which fits African mango, coleus, capsicum and raspberry ketones. The evidence there is weak: African mango trials were small and of poor quality, coleus showed no weight effect, and raspberry ketones were only ever tested inside combination products (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).

Guarana and green tea are caffeine sources, often used in energy and weight products. The label prints no amount, so a sensitive reader should treat them as a variable and start low.

07The amino acids

What do the eight amino acids add?

They take up most of the back end of the blend list. Most are known from sports research, where doses ran to grams. Glutamine was studied at about 15 to 45 g a day, arginine at 2 to 20 g and beta-alanine at 1.6 to 6.4 g, with little or mixed benefit for exercise (NIH ODS, Exercise and Athletic Performance). L-carnitine is the only one with type 2 diabetes studies, at 2 to 3 g a day (NIH ODS, Carnitine).

Because of the weight order, each of these eight can hold only a few milligrams. The last line, L-carnitine, can weigh no more than about 9 mg. L-tryptophan deserves a note for people on serotonin drugs (Drugs.com, L-tryptophan).

08Reading tip

How can the blend order help you read the formula?

The order sets ceilings. A line can weigh no more than 200 mg divided by its place in the list, because every line before it weighs at least as much. So the fourth line, African mango, is at most 50 mg, the eighth, gymnema, at most 25 mg, and the twelfth, ginseng, at most about 17 mg (21 CFR 101.36).

Maca comes first, so it has to weigh at least the average, about 9 mg, and could be far more. The real split is known only to the maker. If you want the numbers, you can ask the distributor named on the label.

09Questions

Frequently asked questions

What are the ingredients in Glyco Harmony?

Chromium (as chromium picolinate) 0.7 mcg and a 200 mg proprietary blend of 22 lines, from maca root to L-carnitine, plus a base of glycerin, water, lemon extract, stevia, xylitol, two preservatives, citric acid and natural flavors.

How many ingredients does the Glyco Harmony formula list?

Twenty-three active lines: chromium plus 22 blend ingredients. Add nine other ingredients in the liquid base and the label shows 32 named items in all.

Which Glyco Harmony ingredient is present in the largest amount?

By label order, maca root leads the blend, so it weighs the most of the 22 blend lines. Its real amount is not printed. Nothing says it is the main active for blood sugar.

Does the Glyco Harmony label give amounts for each herb?

No. Federal rules let a blend show one total weight with the ingredients in order of weight. Glyco Harmony prints 200 mg for 22 lines, about 9 mg each on average.

Is there research on the Glyco Harmony formula itself?

No trial of the finished product has been found. The research cited here is on single ingredients, usually at much larger doses than one dropper holds.

Where can I see the whole Supplement Facts panel?

On the bottle, and on our label page, which types out every line. The panel shows a 1 ml serving, 60 servings, chromium 0.7 mcg, the 200 mg blend and the other ingredients.

10Bottom line

Our view

Grouped by job, the formula looks like a sampler. One mineral at a trace amount, two herbs with small glucose studies, a handful of weight herbs, two caffeine sources and a tail of amino acids. Each group has a reason to be there, and each reason is only partly supported at the doses used in research.

That does not make the formula dishonest. The label lists every line in weight order. It does mean that the gap between the studies and the bottle is wide, and that the real amounts are hidden.

Read it as what it is: a modest daily liquid with a long list. Then decide what that is worth to you.
